Pumpkins Unit FREEBIE & Halloween Centers
Happy Halloween!!!! We've been busy this past couple of weeks learning about ALL things pumpkin! I have a student who cannot participate in Halloween activities, so I have kept my unit related mostly to pumpkin "science." We've still have lots of fun with it! Click the first slide to download my FREE Pumpkins Mini-Unit! What a SWEET Halloween treat! Hehe :)
Here are some of the things we've been working on during centers this past couple of weeks. I've finally got all my centers up and running and the kids are doing so well! I will go into detail about how I initially introduced centers in a later post.

Numbers & Counting {Freebies!}
Here are a few freebies and ideas for counting and numbers. These activities cover
the Common Core Standards for Counting and Cardinality. Click the images
to download. Enjoy!
My class LOVES acting out number stories on our "human ten frame." I have students act out the story on the ten frame, while the rest of the class uses cubes/manipulatives to model on their own work mat. Some of the stories we have done include: 5 Little Monkeys, 5 Little Ducks, 7 Blind Mice, 5 Green Speckled Frogs, Ten Timid Ghosts, and Ten Red Apples. Click to download some of the Math Story Props we've used. Just print and glue onto popsicle sticks!

Common Core "I Can" Posters {Giveaway!}
I spent my fall break working on my Common Core "I Can" Posters, and they're finally up in my TPT store! Each poster includes one standard written in kid-friendly "I Can" format and each standard is illustrated with adorable clipart. As usual, they feature an adorable polka dot theme!
I made two separate packs. Both of them include ALL the Math and ELA Common Core Standards.
The first pack is Bright Polka Dots. This pack includes 111 pages x 6 colors = 666 pages in all!
The second pack includes the same posters in a Black and White Polka Dot theme. It is 111 pages.

Halloween Subtraction {FREEBIE}
Happy October everyone! I was at Walmart the other day and I found this adorable book called Ten Timid Ghosts. It's a story about ten ghosts who get scared from their house one by one, which I thought would make for excellent practice with counting back and subtraction. I modified one of my October centers to go along with this story to give away as a FREEBIE!
For this activity, you will need manipulatives, such as ghost erasers packing peanuts, or white beans...get creative!
To play, students choose a card, place it on the mat, model the subtraction problem with their "ghosts" and then write their equation on the recording sheet. You could also have them model the story as they read, going in order starting from ten and subtracting one each time until they reach zero. Click the image to download. Have fun with it!
